Artist Hyun-hee Kim explores the possibilities of the future by combining familiar and faded images from the past with modern materials. Kim focuses on the fact that furniture is a slow-moving medium that becomes a part of daily life and brings about change, and tells a story through the solidarity medium of traditional Korean furniture. In particular, she pays attention to ‘Gyubang furniture’ (Gyubang means the inner space of the house), which was used in the living space of women in the past, and redefines classical beauty as a present value. She expresses her awareness of problems in her daily life, such as liberation from stereotypes surrounding gender issues and rediscovery of the value of everyday life, which are taken lightly, through furniture. She focuses on the living space of women in the Joseon Dynasty and women’s room furniture, redefining classical beauty as a modern value. Her furniture uses transparent and translucent materials to eliminate existing walls, erases the boundaries between inside and outside, and attempts to communicate with the world by breaking down the boundaries

Kim’s creative brilliance has attracted prestigious global brands with Rimowa and Cartier, and her work and vision have been featured in leading fashion publications including Vogue and Elle.
